Dance Miss Thang! originally served as the grand finale from Monroe’s collection “Return Of The Renissance Man”, marking a 100-year evolution from the golden era of 1924 to the brilliance of 2024. Inspired by the liberated spirit of the Harlem Renaissance, the image captures movement, confidence, and joy as living traditions carried forward into the present.

The title, Dance Miss Thang!, reclaims a phrase historically used to encourage and uplift women and queer communities, transforming it into a modern declaration of pride, leadership, and presence. The work reflects how Black people—particularly Black women—are stepping boldly into spaces of influence with grace, power, and unapologetic self-expression, embodying the energy of today’s Boss Lady. In this moment of celebration and motion, the piece also mirrors Monroe’s own embrace of freedom, confidence, and creative self-definition.
